Areas of Study

Good communicators know that accurate reporting is the foundation of sound journalism, and that sharing information must be tempered with ethical and responsible citizenship.

These tenets drive a TCU education and are the focus of the Department of Journalism. As students learn to gather and disseminate information, they also learn to discern fact from fiction, balance a story and make the right call.

Once they grasp theory in the classroom and learn to structure a lead, out they go to practice their craft. No matter what their field, students will be ready to take their place in the demanding marketplace of the 21st century.

The Department of Journalism is a part of the Bob Schieffer College of Communication, which also houses the Department of Strategic Communication, the Department of Film-Television-Digital Media and Department of Communication Studies.

The department offers an undergraduate major and minor in journalism, an undergraduate major in news and media studies, and a graduate degree in journalism.
